A short story about us

Years of instability in Somalia has meant that a whole generation has grown up without the opportunity of education – particularly in Berdale district, where an estimated 95 percent of the population is illiterate. To address that pressing need, a cohort of commited educators — 99% of whom hailed from Ethiopian refugee camps and had the opportunity to receive an education — took matters into their own hands in 2019. We started as a private tuition centre, Al-Azhar College, providing basic education for those who had lost out. This effort gradually transformed itself into the Malable Primary and Technical School, which is now one of the leading educational institutions in the city, giving hope and education to many people in Berdale.

Our mission is to educate and uplift the people of Berdale—where over 85% remain illiterate—by equipping our students with foundational knowledge and technical skills. Driven by a passionate team of educators, many of whom overcame displacement and hardship themselves, we are committed to building a future where education is a right, not a privilege, and where every child and adult has the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead.

At our school, we provide technical education in Computer Science, Tailoring and Henna Art, which help in providing a means of livelihood. ​ ​​We are providing vocational technical education to our students which will help them to lead a successful life. Such programs foster creativity, self-employment, and digital literacy – critical tools for individual and community advancement. We blend the old with the new to teach the future leaders of tomorrow both digitally and culturally.

Our curriculum concentrates on establishing a solid foundation in Reading, Science, Math and preparing the success of each child in the future as well as perpetuating a love of learning for life.
